🍬 Honoring Sweet Tradition: Schimpff’s Confectionery Celebrates 133 Years in Jeffersonville

In the heart of Downtown Jeffersonville, Indiana, the community came together this week to celebrate one of the region’s sweetest success stories — Schimpff’s Confectionery, a beloved family-owned candy shop that’s been delighting visitors since 1891.

The celebration, attended by Mayor Mike Moore and local leaders, recognized several milestones: 35 years of leadership by Warren and Jill Schimpff, Schimpff’s recent national honor as the #1 Candy Store in America, and the passing of the torch to fifth-generation owner Steve Shepherd.

🍭 A Legacy of Craftsmanship and Community

For more than 130 years, Schimpff’s has been crafting candies the old-fashioned way — by hand, with care, and with a deep sense of community pride. From live cinnamon drop demonstrations to their working 1950s soda fountain, the shop is both a living museum and a symbol of Southern Indiana’s entrepreneurial spirit.

Through floods, redevelopment, and downtown revitalization, the Schimpff family has remained a constant — a reminder that local businesses form the heart of our community. Their story reflects the same resilience and service ethic found across Jeffersonville’s Historic Main Street District, where small businesses and civic pride go hand in hand.

✂️ Passing the Torch

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mayor Moore joined the Schimpff family in celebrating Steve Shepherd’s new role as fifth-generation owner. The moment symbolized more than succession — it represented continuity, tradition, and trust in a changing world.

With Shepherd at the helm, Schimpff’s continues to be an anchor for both tourism and community in Southern Indiana’s vibrant riverfront. Visitors from across the country stop in not only for the candy but also for the warm, nostalgic experience that feels like stepping back in time.

🏆 A Nationally Recognized Local Treasure

Being named the #1 Candy Store in America is more than a badge of honor — it’s a reflection of what makes Jeffersonville and the Kentuckiana region special.
It celebrates a community where hard work, family ownership, and customer care are still the recipe for success.

And for local residents, it’s a sweet reminder of why it matters to shop local and support the people who make our cities stronger, one small business at a time.
